I am looking for the driver's side lower step for a 1949 Jeepster. These were cast aluminum. They do make them new for $134, or I can buy a used one from Jeepster Jim for $150, but I think that's a bit much.

Anyone have one lying around?

You could try Harry Sheets at Midwest Willys. He has all kinds of used parts and reasonable.

I would expect the cost to re-chrome along with the purchase price would exceed the value of a new repop, although the part being  made from cast aluminum could be taken to a hydraulic cylinder shop and the chrome stripped, then you could polish it out

Haven't seen repops but if they are like any of the other repop cra...,uh,parts then he'll be better off rechroming originals.

Headlight bezels are a good example....if you hold both in your hand a chromed original is obviously the better choice.

Sometimes cheaping out on details screws up an otherwise great looking project.....just my opinion.
