Thought some of the members on the form might be interested in the engine block metallurgy. Ni Cr in my best guess represents Nickel Chromimum alloy cast iron, according to the chart in the 1-3% for Ni. and .5-1% for chrome. The N-2 probably means 2% Ni. Which makes these blocks very high quality castings. The relatively high Ni. content would increase weldability especially with Ni. rod. Joe Wadoyado

Interesting, I'll have to get my metallurgical engineer friend to chime in.
He made them tell him what was in the toxic agents (nerve gasses) that they were burning out in the Pacific. Got to have the right alloys in the plumbing. Really they had more problems with the salt air eating up the trucks, bicycles and electronic gear and plumbing. |
