Just like the Johnny Cash song....
This is my first post. Thanks to this forum for such great info, tech and history. I've been lurking for a long time and have learned a great deal. I've been playing with flat fenders for 25ish years. Back in the day, finding a flatty in New England was as easy as stepping off your porch. In the late 80's - early 90's I had a little "collection" of junkers, parts rigs and even a few complete Jeeps. But alas, those are all gone. All but one. The 46 I have kept has evolved over the past two decades from a odd fire daily driver to a V8 powered extreme rock crawler. I love this jeep and the years of memories it's brought me. That said, I longed for a Jeep like I had back when I was younger (and a lot thinner) So i started looking for a project. BKWUDZ had a 2A he picked up. But when he found a 3B more to his liking, he offered this to me. I jumped on it and got to work. So, this is the rest of the story of #114832 Warning - it's a mongrel....resto mod type build. I'll upgrade here and there. But the goal is to keep that stock flavor. So here goes nothing..... |

So this was what we found when we removed the body. Needless to say, there wasn't much saving here. So networking with some friends, I found a couple usable frames. I chose to use a 53 frame that had already been blasted and had a tow hitch added. I chose this one because it was in good shape and is identical to the late 2A. So i can still sort of say...."it's a 2A"

Found a nice low mileage motor and "restored" it. Checked clearances and regasket and repaint. After some drama with the first T-90, I installed a '55 T-90 in nice shape. Behind that hangs a 61 D18 with the 1.25" shaft. New clutch and resurfaced flywheel bring it all together.

the other clunkers in the mix. Both are 46's as far as i can tell. Although a 3A windshield landed on the stocker. Edited by nofender - 03 Sep. 2016 at 4:20pm |

Nice, welcome...Andy may be new to this site, but far from new to the Willys World.
Any mods for more "behind the steering wheel" room planned? Just saying |

Front axle/brakes done. Corn head grease in the knuckles and bolt on CJ caliper brackets and discs.
I converted to an alternator with a home made mount. Also fabbed up a power steering pump mount. |

Andy, are those Ansen aluminum wheels on your chassis? I have a set, deeper than yours, and have been told they require a special shouldered lug nut. I have been told they are obsolete, and I have to locate used ones.

The wheels are not Ansen. They are stock 70's Jeep that I believe were supplied by American to Jeep. In any case, you shouldn't have any trouble locating a shouldered lug nut. Check Summit racing. They have pages and pages of 1/2 x 20 lugs. I think this may be the style you are looking for: |

Making progress....
Exhaust is done. I had to reroute it however. I have a brace/plate supporting the receiver hitch out back that claims the same space the muffler wanted. So the solution was to reconfigure the exhaust. The Radiator and grill mounts were missing on this frame. These were recreated. I had to move the driver side radiator stud to clean the steering shaft. Radiator surround needed some modding too. I hand formed a little patch and welded it in. The rad is now at the shop getting renewed. Overall, pretty happy with the progress so far.

Thanks. Appreciate the kind words!
They are 31x9.50x15. The Jeep originally came to me with 34x9,50 Swampers. They were too big in my opinion. Not sure what I'm going to do with tires. This are nice, But i'd like a 33x9.50. We'll see once all is said and done.

Hi nofender. I'd like to see some more details and pics of your power steering pump bracket. I'm toying with the idea to power my Saginaw box. Did you factor in the lower radiator hose position and the pump belt? Most of them I've seen, the radiator hose goes thru the loop of the belt. Is that the way yours will route?

Hi there, I can take some close up shots in a couple days, when I get home. The belt on my set up will go above the lower hose. It's a tight fit. What I did also is opt for the steel coolant elbow. This way if there should be any belt "slap" i won't be risking a damaged radiator hose.
