Willys lists this as part of Group 16 - "Gauges".  I've chosen to list it here in the "fuel" group.  Makes more sense:

Group 16-02,  Part #640694 - GAUGE, fuel tank unit



 

This is the later style, commonly used as replacement for the original:

Sean that is about what mine looks like with the split brass float.  I was not saying mine was original just that that is what is in mine.  Thanks for posting it.

Is there a test protocol for determining function on these sending usits? Mine unit is like the one at the bottom - later style.

Mike:

It's just a variable resistor, measure it w/an ohm meter.  At the "full" position, it should be 0 (or nearly so) ohms.  At empty, it should be 130-150 ohms.
