Hi Folks,
The anti squeak strips under the fuel tank are made of webbing. They protect the tank from rubbing against metal to metal. The placement of the strips on 23353 is pictured. You can see the footprint from the original strips. After restoring and sealing the tank, I used some adhesive on the new strips to secure them in place to the tank. If you are careful about placement it will coincide with the gas tank securing strap and hardware. The metal strap also has webbing and the webbing is secured with staples to the strap itself. The ground clamp, at the rear of the tank, had a double thickness of webbing between the clamp and tub secured by the bolt. I believe this rear clamp is the only metal to metal contact for the tank to the body. This serves as the ground point for the fuel gauge. Interesting that Willys put a piece of webbing under the clamp as a spacer. They were counting on the bolt to complete the ground circuit to the tank from the tub.

Great post.
This is one of the unseen and only few details that haven't been covered or recognised. Thanks for sharing.
I've always thought this tank design to be just a bad one as every sort of debriss finds it's way under the the tank....only to rot and rot the tub and tank. They should have put removing it and cleaning under it in the maintanence manuel for service every year.

I found that by putting small (1/2 x 1/2 x 1/8 inch) rubber pads under the tank, especially along the edges and under the center brace, you can flush out dirt easier and help the tank and floor dry out faster after a day in the rain.  Beats removing it to patch leaks and repaint where it rubbed the floor.
