    Posted: 22 Dec. 2013 at 1:04am
Got up to nearly sixty degrees in Indy last couple days but with the rain decided I better get in some shop time so decided to find out why the hitch wouldn't tight up on the ball. Of course the bolt and nut were rusted together but penetrating oil and heat took care of that and will be able to recondition for use. Guess the tab and especially weak and rusted spring are my major concern now. Hoping spring tension will hold tab in place and will be able to use (tighten) once replacements are found.

I am presuming nut is free floating under assembly on bolt and not held in place (stationary/from freewheeling) by anything but spring & tab.

Any suggestions on getting new parts?

Russ,

Pick up a Fulton hardware replacement kit. Comes with everything you need (spring and tab) with the newer style square knob that can be kept as a spare and you can continue to use the original octagon knob.

Bob - it should, I think they used the same Fulton coupler as Bantam did.

If you order your parts from Carid don't get in any hurry. Of course part of my delay in getting parts had to do with weather delays, but the company had the part drop shipped from the mfg and I thing the WI based Co. had to wait for a shipment from Mexico, where the parts are stamped. I think I ordered on 12/22 and arrived 1/13.

Like Bensh said, it's a long wait for shipment, but these are some quality parts, Just what my Spen needed.

Wish I had a place just to get new springs. The tab & springs would seem to be the only parts frequently needed. I bought a regular spring at the hardware and cut to length which seemed like it would work, but didn't have the tapered/ smaller ends/coil rolls needed.

I just bought a 1947 and I also need the Fulton coupling repair kit. Spoke to CARId and it only comes in a 2" ball size. Stupid question-----My hitch on the trailer seems smaller than even a 1 7/8 " What size did the T3-C come with? Thanks

Thank you. I will look at my plate and see if it says 06 coupling. So the repair kit from CARID will not work? They said it was for a 2" ball.

I've always been able to find original parts so I can not confirm. Perhaps someone will chime in. I would think the only problem would be the tab or the cast piece that goes under/inside the coupler itself or its physical size.

It seems that available kits/parts availability could change as demand changes.  I did a quick "Fulton Replacement Coupler" search and found some information.

Some of this was covered previous posts:

Until replacement parts start showing from MDJuan, it may be necessary to be creative to get parts to fit while preserving any existing original parts.
