Paul, your right. Seems like the smallest thing takes at least a day. Maybe I'm to fussy. I did not get the tire carrier done today. Ran for a farm jack (Tractor Supply) so I could make a bracket for that. Next thing I know, its 2030 hours and the little woman pages me on the intercom to come in for dinner. Called it quits for the night. Then a buddy of mine text me to tell me he has a 2006 LJ for sale, from Florida. WTH, will it ever stop? It only has 110K , have to look at it this week.
At this point, I'm seriously considering taking it to an exhaust shop and let them worry about the exhaust system. What the heck, its tax return time anyways. Edited by masscj2a - 29 Jan. 2017 at 1:58am |

With the tub off it's a even easier job. Just do it, save the aggravation. I bought all the tube, and bends....thought it would be fun to build the exhaust...hell, it looks fun when they did it on Orange County Choppers.
So I did it, spent a ton of time, and it came out pretty good, even the exhaust guy was impressed I built it when I brought it in. When I picked it and saw what he did, My sh*t didn't even make sense. They bring it to a whole other level I spent days doing it. But had to make lots of compromises...would never do it again |

That's what I'm thinking to. I'm putting the tub back on today, again. I have to check a few things out, before I finish the tire carrier. I also did a couple of blind nuts on the rear frame for body mounts. That 15 gallon tank I mounted between the frame rails makes getting to the nuts hard, so I welded a few in to keep me from worrying about that. Now with the tank off, I'm going under to make sure they line up, prior to putting the tank on and making all the connections. I will visit a couple of exhaust shops this week and pick one out.

Ok, here is todays progress. Its about noon time and again, last night the temps here went to about 8 degrees. Out to the barn this morning about 0800. Retreated to the house at noon for tea. There are two thing I am very jealous about, of people that live in warmer climates, 1) you have warmer weather in the winter and came find more incentive to work on and finish a project 2) you don't have the rust we do to either fix or replace. OK, that's enough of my rant. Back to the tire carrier. Here is where its at right now. I will go out later and cut and fit a 2 inch receiver into the bumper portion and then I am done for now on that and it will go off to the blaster to get the scale off and prepped for Acid 8 and then Raptor liner.

Looking really good. Driver side taillight won't be obstructed by the tire will it? Hard to tell from the angle of the photos. Only ask cuz I had issues with mine.

Rick, its going to fit, but just in one spot. There is not much room on that side, because I cheated that way with the tire, because I wanted to put a Jerry can on the other side. That's not getting done right now. I may want to try those new plastic ones, that are thinner. Forgot the name of them. I ran out of wire again tonight, so the last bit of welding will have to wait until tomorrow. Welding in my 2 inch receiver. Man, will this ever end. The bumper I mean, well and the whole project.

Looking good Mark. The tire will look smaller when you get the roll cage back in. If you are going Rotopax I will give you your $20 back

Mike, I'm still using the Jerry can, either here or the Scrambler or the M416. I spent too much time yesterday trying to fit in on here, so may go with a Rotopax on here instead. I just needed to move on to the receiver, so my brain would stop hurting. I was also figuring once the cage is back on along with other stuff, the tire will start to fit into the landscape. Man it does look big though. How did you like my removable plate holder. 3/8 black pipe and an old rusted bolt off the Jeep when I first stripped it down. Total cost, $0.00. I like it. Oh, but I'm forgetting the plate holder I bought about 15 years ago and never used. Took me about 1/2 hour to find it, but I knew it was hiding somewhere upstairs.

Looks perfect! Your plate light is in route. Rotopax are nice and easy to moun; they make some slick little mounts for them. When did you get a M416!?!? Do tell... You'll have to find me one with your superb finding skills... I'll trade you for a nice yard tractor..it runs sweet

Only thing about the warm weather places is along with it comes lots of crawly bitey stingy things. After spending 2 days in the hospital the last time I got stung I'll take the cold. By the way I like your jeep color, what is it.

leecarr, its the 2015-2016 Jeep Tank green. I will look up the paint code, but I think its NGK or PGK, but I will look at the can later. Sully, I sold the Bantam trailer last year and picked the M416 up instead. ( a little heavier duty ) Found it in CT and a Town auction. Came out of a town DPW yard. They had it for years and got it from the military from a Northstar donation, but never used it. You have to come over and check it out, its sweet. Its going to be a expedition trailer someday with a roof top tent.

When the wife and I were shopping for our '16 JKU the end of '15, every dealer was telling me that the tank green had been discontinued, couldn't be ordered, and to get it on a '16 I'd have to find it on the lot...we were already "arguing" over color, but a couple weeks later I found the trim level I was looking for out of state...
I remember back on page 5, in July, leaning over and showing her your first paint pics, and saying ... "See?... I told you! ;) "

That's funny. Did you tell her it was a stock color for 47 ?
leecarr, I was right on both counts, it is both NGK and PGK. I think the NGK is a touch up color, and PGK is the color code from the factory. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Can't wait to get it out in the sun. I went on the Bantam Jeep Fest page yesterday and almost registered to go, but didn't want to jinx myself. (again) Edited by masscj2a - 04 Feb. 2017 at 1:52pm |

I've been looking at your build and want to just say a couple things.
The job you did welding up the body, while time consuming, dirty , and a pain in the arse, looks great! I want to one day do a 2A with an updated frame and running gear and hope it will turn out half as nice as yours. The other things you've done look great too. The chassis boxing, the paint and fab work looks awesome. As far as living in a warmer climate, in North Carolina it's 70 degrees right now. It is conducive to more winter building in the garage if I could keep my girlfriend and her daughter from buying furniture to fill it up with. I'm thinking of a trip way up north later in the year and I'm gonna look you up and check out that great looking 2A. Matt |

Matt, I don't know What to say, except you just inflated my head to size XXXXL. I have to admit that when I started this project, I was going to be happy with kind of a stock build. I rescued this 2a from a probable death by beating. Actually found out about its history from my friends down at Endangered Species Jeep. Its been around the US. Then My bud Sully nurtured me along into building this version you see now, although it didn't take much pushing. He just kept saying, "Yah know, it would be cool if ......" Then half way through, I said what the heck. Its been upgraded at a lot of points, but now I have the Jeep I have always wanted and the parts I wanted to get that done. Its no super Jeep, that will fly over valleys and climb straight up shear cliffs, but it was build as a solid everyday driver but capable enough to keep up (slowly) with some of the big boys. Whenever you get out this way, just let me know. I would be more then happy to meet you and who knows, maybe it will be done by then. Maybe we can get Sully up here at the same time. Or for that matter anyone who is out this way is more than welcome to come on out. Thanks for all the kind words.

Yes, that would be very cool. And maybe, Sully would say, hey, your finally done with the Jeep and I got up here a little late to help. But if you get here soon enough, it will still be needing work.

Lets see if I can get these posted. As of today, still needs ECU mounted in engine bay, seat belts, horn, gauges installed, brake system bleeding and tranny, TC fixing.
