I went over to my wife's cousin's house today. He was excited to show me his new shop that he built. He built it so he would have a place to work on his MB that he has had stored in a little shed since the early 80s. He has shown me this thing before and I have been nagging him for years to get it going. He says that now that he has the shop space, it's going to happen. We'll see.

He also has 11, yes I said 11, original combat wheels that traded for years ago from a guy in an old scrap yard for a few cases of fresh raspberries that he was supposed to be delivering to his aunt.

This thing looks really solid. "Ran when parked." It's been under cover since I think he said, 1982.

Now all it needs is a proper grill, biff all the Military related stuff, higher windscreen, stronger back axle and it will be a proper Jeep.

I know. Different transmission as well I do like that big ole' fuel filter on the passenger side though. Seems to have a certain coolness factor.

Looks like it still might have the Radio Control Box and Conduit under the passenger seat going by the four bolts in a square pattern on the passenger side panel. Those are almost always missing on MB/GPW jeeps. Very nice and should not take too much effort to make her a motor pool or better class of a vehicle.

Proper Jeep? OMG. This is an outrage! This is discrimination at its worst. I can understand throwing a Wrangler under the bus but the MB.......no, I will not sit quietly and let he mighty MB be maligned in such a way.🙉🙈🙊

Probably isn't. It was added sometime in the 89s.

You guys Lways amaze me at what you notice.
I think it has kind of a cool custom paint job. They are planing on sandblasting everything and taking it back to its wartime uniform.

The pin striping is almost like '60s/'70s panel paint. I kinda dig it...kinda.
My wife refers to my 2a as "the project."

Hood numbers are probably long gone---but maybe not, if the orange paint was applied over the OD.

Agree, a careful hand sanding might reveal the original numbers. Worth a try.

He wants to try this. Neither one of us has any paint experience. So what do you suggest? Wet sanding with maybe 800 grit?

There's a "sticky" thread on the G503 forum about several ways to recover the numbers.   BW
