Well I’ve been collecting parts for years now and still haven't gotten any closer to a frame up restoration. So I came up with a new plan, I'm going to fix what it needs to make it safe and somewhat reliable and drive it.
So the past few months I’ve been working on it I got the DJ top off and have finished the Windshield. I'm rather happy how well the outer frame came out since I spent 3 days welding holes up in the tube, sheet metal and rebuilding the tube where it was bubba fixed. It was also built from the parts of 5 diffrent windshields( I need to start taking before pictures ). Anyhow here are some pictures. Edited by 48willys - 28 Jan. 2018 at 9:11pm |

That's what I was trying to do when I first got my Jeep, but it sorta snowballed into a complete rebuild. I on my third rebuild so far, each time taking a little bit more apart then the time before. Looking forward to following your build.

Nice work on the windshield. Do each part that well and it will look almost as good as Low's 45 !
Interesting seats there.. seems the backs are somehow modded to have more belly room.

IMO - that's a great approach... keep driving them!! I've been threatening for 3-4 years now to rebuild the one in my avator, but I've been having to much fun driving it to tear it appart. It's not perfect so I never worry about getting scratches and dings. My daughter is getting married in June and wants to have antique cars in the wedding so I'm finally going to give it a face lift. I hope I like it as much as i do now |

to many jeeps, parts, and accessories to list here, but apparently enough to keep me in trouble with my wife. |

Thanks. Yea I don't know what they did to the seats but it seems they haven't done anything to bad to them, it feels like the metal backs are still there but they added a wood frame to enclose them. I'm hopeing to start some body work and do some paint when it warms up. Its just going to be rattle cans but it the easiest way to go when you cant pull the whole thing apart to paint.

I like my rust and grease as much as my chrome and paint.
If something was mechanically sound and decent, I would leave it as is, aka my 49. Edited by garage gnome - 01 Mar. 2013 at 3:10pm |

I sorta know what you mean, the old patina just adds to the history of the jeep. But by the time I fix the rusted out fender brace and other things its going to be calico in color at that point might as well just get it all one color.

I did my 44 Mb in much the same fashion, I tore it down enough to fix the safety/running issues (still took 3 years with funds and such issues) and have been doing restoration work since. I have had it on the road for over 5 years now and am just rebuilding the engine this winter. (and the rest of the under hood restoration/detailing at the same time.)

Nothing wrong with rattle cans, long as prep is done right. I think you made a good choice on fixing and driving, wait till you have one to drive before you do a full restore.

Well it’s been a long time since I posted an update. I got the rear all straightened out, rear quarter fixed and the spare tire bracket mounted, straightened out the driver side metal and got the bow pockets reattached, and new body mounts in the rear made. After careful study I decided to replace the front floor as there were only three bolts holding the body to the frame, working with 1x2" tubing and some scrap sheet metal I came up with this. Anyhow some pics,
