Spent this weekend on brakes, put all new shoes, wheel cylinders, and axle seals on it and now it stops great! Wish I did it years ago instead of messing with the old leaky wheel cylinders.

As just a thought for those still running the single master cylinder, checking all the brake lines really good while doing oil changes and such is a good idea. I hadn’t really thought of checking them as I had put new flex lines on along with all new steel lines a few years ago. My brother just happened to see the front flex line had a big bulge in it and was about to burst, so it got replaced and all the others got a good going over for cracking or anything else.

Got the rims painted up, and a few other little things done. Also thought I would take a shot at building a rear seat for it as well. It came out rather well other than I couldn't come up with a sure way of putting the ribs in the back.

Give up on it! It looks terrible. I'll come down with my car trailer and dispose of it for you! LOL I sure like that tan. Guys that have bead rollers put the ribs in the panels. It stiffens them. Your repair will work fine! John

Thanks guys! Hoping to have it ready to drive by early spring, just a few little things holding me back.
Only have the transfer case leak to fix and I found that my distributor is shot. The advance springs must have broke and got ground up in there, so I got an extra one at the machine shop getting bushings made for it. Sort of thinking about sending the carb off to you scoutpilot for an overhaul.

Making headway, got a few more parts in the mail. So I got the distributor all put together and put it in and just adjusted it by ear. Its running great now, and starts much easier than it ever did but I think I'll still try to set it with a timing light when I get my timing marks figured out. It still has that low throttle stall that I guess should go away when I get my Carb to Scoutpilot.
Also got the transfer case leak fixed,I hope    . Noticed the front seal on the engine is leaking a little so I'm thinking maybe I should go ahead and change it as I don't think its a big job, and I wanted to change my crank nut so I can use my hand crank.

Well got some more done. Pulled the timing cover to change the seal and found out the last person to work on it must have lost the spacer and oil slinger so they just put a old bearing race in there for a spacer . They also stripped the bolt holes in the cover, it worked out though, I had a later timing cover and pulley with the timing marks so it's all back together the right way and I have the marks on the front that I needed .

Got tags and got a short ride in. Carb is back from Scoutpilot and working great. After my ride I'm finding a few small problems and maybe one big one. Cold, oil pressure is spot on, but at about 30mph my oil pressure is dropping to 15 lbs when it gets hot, it will come up with more rpms . I'm thinking maybe I should try changing out the pump and see if it helps, I’m guessing though that it would just be covering up the real problem.
I'm running 30w nondetergent oil now, anyone think changing to something like 15w40 would help any? I have cleaned out the oil pan so I'm not overly concerned about running detergent oil now. I'll have to post up a pic of my oil pickup; I just could not believe what someone had done to it.

I assume your oil level is correct. What temperature is the motor running when driving?

Yea oil is good, cleaned the oil pan, cleaned\replaced the oil pickup tube, cleaned pickup screen and changed the oil in it Saturday, put 5qts in it and it shows good on the stick.
It was running a bit hot; it got almost to 200 when I was climbing a good hill. I got a 160 thermostat with the hole drilled in it. The running hot might be running lean, I noticed when I got back I have a really bad air leak on the inlet side of the pump and it’s not getting enough fuel. Hope to fix that tonight, and recheck my timing just to be sure.

Yes. Do check the timing. Ignition that is too far advanced will cause overheating.

You gotta remember too, 160 degrees is not very hot, so when the engine gets to that temp the thermostat stays open, then the radiator does not have the time to cool the water because the thermostat is always open.  If you had a 180 degree thermostat, it might stay closed longer and let the radiator cool longer.  Just my two cents.

This is why I had the oil pan off, I was changing the oil and this hard chunk of crap came out. When I pulled the pan off this is what I found . They must have dropped the engine on it and busted a hole in the corner of the pick up tube, they had a cut off bolt head epoxied over the hole.
