Hello Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone could answer some questions which I had. First off, my project is a complete engine and transmission transfer, widening the axel and lowering the jeep around 6 inches off the ground. The engine which i am trying to fit in the jeep is a 4.5L twin turbo V8 which came out of a 2004 Porsche Cayenne. Im not sure if it will fit because I have not bought the vehicle yet but I really want the body to be a CJ-2A. Also what lowering kit would allow me to lower it that low. Just to let you know price is not a factor I just really want this to workout. Thanks |

Just an observation.....if you are trying to find the right "lowering kit" before you proceed with the rest of this project I believe I would say you should rethink it.
In other words, this is not common in ANY sort of way and if you will be relying on "kits" to get you through this little project you need to find another project.....sorry, just an opinion. I'm only assuming this is a legitimate post. |

So you want it 6" off the ground, at what point ?, the bottom of the diffs, skid plate, or ?. As previously said there is "no" lowering kit that I am aware of. Other things to concider, what side of the front Axel does the donor drive on, length-height-width of the engine, oil pan drop on the front or back ?. Not say'in it cannot happen, just that there is no aftermarket support for this swap and You will be the engineer!.

Basically you will have to modify the frame in order to lower from standard ride height.
Even if you plan to forego the suspension. Not familiar with the engine you have in mind. Its mainly a matter of whether or not it will physically fit into the engine bay. Beyond that you really need specify your primary intended useage for the jeep and present us with as many "build stipulations" as you can. Is this to be a Rat Rod build or ???? That way we can provide more advice.

If money is no object, it would probably be easier to put a 2A tub on a Porsche chassis.

Wow. That's a project. You really need to figure out what components your using. The porche cayenne engine, transmission, transfer case are all mated together. There is a sub frame up front and a sub frame in back. Otherwise the cayenne is a unibody. You will need to make a complete frame and everything to it. The wheelbase is wider and longer than a cj2a so a custom wheelbase cj2a will need to be considered. Also a cj was never designed for a 400 plus horsepower engine that propels the cayenne to over 160 mph! Please keep up in the loop and sends up pictures.

Your better off building a custom chassis and placing a 2a body on that. The stock 2a frame is not going to stand up to a Porsche Cayenne motor, without major mods and its not cost effective. Anything is possible, with enough money to pour down the hole. Your not dropping a motor into a lowered 2a chassis. You need frame upgrades, steering and suspension upgrades along with wheel well changes etc. Look at buying a Factory five chassis built for your motor and then drop on a body. Otherwise, just send me a check for about 75K and I will do it for you.

I can sure think of a whole lot of other engines I would look at powering a Willys with then a Porsche anything.
If I wanted a whole bunch of death defying HP I would look to go simple and shove a SBC in one every way you can do it someone has already done a couple hundred times. Everything you need can be bought off the shelf. And if 400HP isn't enough to destroy everything behind it screw on some NO2 and really have some fun. Personally I have always thought the engine to slide into a Willys would be a real nice about 250hp Ford 302 dependable FAST/QUICK and the distributor is up from where a human can get to it easy enough. |

Friend has an ecotec 2.4 in a well built Baja Bug and loves it. Smooth power in all elevations. Runs well and has A/C. Bolt together kit through Kennedy I think. Wonder if it fits in a 2a
