Mock up has begun in earnest now.

So my son and I moved the body onto the frame so i could start marking and measuring for the next phase. My hat channels should be done Tuesday. So we can start soon. Couple of clearance issues are apparent now. The muffler needs to move or be replaced by a slimmer design. There are some clearance issues around the OD. But i think once the channels are installed (right now spaced with plywood) and the body rubber is in place it should be solved I do not wanted anything even closely resembling a body lift. So, I'll figure that out.

The body lines were really bugging me. Almost seemed as though the rear panels were slanted towards the front. After hours of measuring, checking level, playing with shims and so on, I'm still not 100% convinced i don't have an issue. The quarter panel level matches the cowl level. I spent a lot of time getting that right. I copied the stock flatty in the garage. My son was brought in for second opinion. He thinks the angles look a little wonky too.

The passenger side, especially bugs me. Maybe the lines combined are playing tricks on me.

What do you think? am i nuts?

Well no one seems to be bothered by the body lines. So I'm calling it an OCD moment and moving on!

I got lucky with those wheels. I had a set years ago. I think there is pic somewhere in this thread. I was about to ship a set from Colorado when I found these in Maine. Full set of five, with the tires for a very reasonable sum. At some point I may search for another set, just to have them.

Let's get moving masscj ! we have back roads to explore!

Here's one for you doddledad:

I guess I didn't have a pic of my Jeep from 23ish years ago. This is the same Jeep in the picture above. It's evolved a bit.....

My whole goal of this build is to loosely recreate this Jeep from years ago - minus my early days hack work....

Hey nofender, what size tires and wheels were those that you had on your jeep before it "evolved"?

doodledad, hang on a minute, I've already been groveling for that creepy crawly machine. Andy, I'm working my butt off trying to catch up. I will be in the barn all day tomorrow working on it. Hope the weather is going to hold out for a good week or so. Maybe I still have a chance to catch you and yes, we have roads and trails to wander.
PS; I like those swampers on it and kinda dig what it used to look like, but would still put it in my barn in its present form. I was thinking about a scrambler buggy, seeing its about the right length already. But that's another project.

That's not fair. You can't put all the blame on her. Maybe some driver error? I flipped TJ Hooker over backwards i(00 Rock Crawler) my wife strangely seemed to enjoy herself I'm thinking she caused it for her own twisted enjoyment. Now see there I go........

OK, now that I know you don't trust it and it has been ROLLED OVER a time or two, I should get a discount. Besides, if I never took a chance on a hateful beast or two, I would not have been married twice I still like women, and sometimes trust them, but their still fun to be with.

We try to get out to RC at least once a year. We have access to some private land out this way as well. The big Jeep has been all over - KOH, Moab, Tellico and so on. It's seen some adventures over the years!

Looking forward to doing some mild back roads exploring with this road legal Jeep. Hope to put some miles on her.

Got braces made and installed. I deviated from a stock design. It just seemed to work better for me. I elected to use the wider sized braces throughout. I also added two wide braces and two narrow ones for the rear floor.

I'm pleased with the result. Although I do have a couple ugly warp spots on the floors. We'll  call it character.....

Next step is off the the blaster for some clean up.

Nice work on those floor braces, did you bend them up yourself with that break in the background on the floor?
