My 48 CJ...on the outside of the drivers side panel ...has what looks like two separate "pockets" (???)...kind of like where you would store an ax.... Anyone know what those are actually designed for? Very much appreciated! Robert

If you mean the two brackets on the drivers side outside panel, they are for holding the top bows.
