Someone on the boards cam up with "knuckle pudding" a while back. It's a mixture of grease and gear oil. Try doing a search for it.
I plan on ordering 5 gallons of 600 wt steam cylinder oil to use in the knuckles on my 2A. It has a consistency between grease and gear oil and has excellent water repellant capabilities. So it should work pretty well. The Model A uses something similar in its differential and gearbox.
