Did you try to disconnect the hose that goes to the back of the gauge? If there is oil coming out of there while it is running, and it will come out fast and furious, then the gauge is probably no good.

i recently pulled a 46 cj2a from a barn were it sat for the last 20 years. after removing the head and cleaning things up i got it running. the oil pressure guage shows no movement.the upper hose to the filter needs replacement and is plugged at this point, with out the plug oil will flow from it. if i have no oil pressure will it be obvious? i can run it for quit a while with no bad noises.
