Did some more checking. According to Willys Overland Production numbers the model number for a DJ3A was indeed 56337, but there were no serial numbers listed as high as yours. See below:

DJ-3A
YEAR BODY MODEL START END UNITS
1956 DJ-3A 56337 10001 12510 2510
1957 DJ-3A 56337 12512 13305 794
1958 DJ-3A 56337 13306 14693 1388
DJ-3A ST CH 56437 10001 10001 1
1959 DJ-3A 56337 14694 16642 1948
DJ-3A ST CH 56437 10002 10002 1
1960 DJ-3A 56337 16643 19367 2725
DJ-3A ST CH 56437 10003 10014 12
1961 DJ-3A 56337 19368 20909 1542

Got this information at the link below:

http://www.off-road.com/jeep/tech/history/serial.html

From this you can see that Norton Young quit keeping these stats in 1961, ending with serial number 20909. But you can also see that they averaged around 1800 DJ3As per year, so yours is most assuredly a 1962 DJ3A.

Hope this helps,

Brian

: need some help identifying what I just pushed into my barn. It has flat fenders, low hood, venting windshield like a 3A, gas tank under the rear floor, no tool box, willys embossed hood, two wheel drive, 4 bolt wheels, center rear diff., no engine or transmission. I think it is a DJ3A but not sure. The id tag reads Willys Jeep serial number 56337 21942. Any help would be appreciated.
