: I bought new front springs and new shackles for my '46. The springs came with front bushings that I had to press out, now I find the 'threaded shackles' are a tight squeeze for the spring eyes. Do I just bear down on them and screw them into the eye as part of the install procedure? I understand the actual spring motion comes from the 'inner threads'. Thanks.

: Been tearing this thing down since Dec 2001, finally got a welder for some frame repair and slowly, painfully slow, getting it back together.

I just put new shackles on my 46. I used my old springs and they went in fairly tight. You could feel the threads of the bushing inside the spring eye. It says in the operation and care manual to alternate tighting and to snug the head of the bushing to the frame bracket and the bushing in the spring eye is 1/32" away from the spring measured from inside of the hexagon head to the spring. if they are to tight they will break a spring.
I understand "painfully slow", what started out as lets just fix a few things and go camping has turn into a year and a half of restoration. I hope by the end of 2003 I can go camping.
I hope all or some of this helps
tf
