That plate was a patent plate with the serial number on it. I've only seen them on the civilian CJ3A. The military M38, M38A1 series and M170 have a similar plate there. Does the firewall tag list the jeep as a CJ3A? The M38 tag is about 1 1/2 " high and 2 1/2" wide. The CJ3A tag is about 2 1/2 " wide and 3" high. I have photos of both but they are 200K files.
