: I am not an experienced painter by any means. This will be a first for me. That is why I decided to go with a flat color and not have to mess with clear coat.

: I am glad to hear that that is all I need. Now, to just decide what to paint it, then I can start prepping it.

: Any ideas on what color?

Denny:

It is hard picking a color; I have a '46 that I am about to re-paint, and after much deliberation, decided to go with the original harvest tan (you probably already know that there is a paint chart on this site ..... if you want to stick with an original color).

Since I welded in new front and back floorboards, and new channel supports, I don't ever want to see rust again! I used roll-on herculiner (pickup bedliner) as an undercoat on the tub, so I am not painting the underside.

Our local paint store expert just about has me convinced to use the base coat/clear coat system. He says that it dries faster than acrylic enamels, so there is less chance of getting dust/impurities settling in the finish. He also says he can add a dulling agent to the clear coat, so that all the imperfections in the old Jeep bodies aren't so noticiable.

It all comes down to personal choice, and there probably isn't a right and a wrong answer. I am using this as practice for the next car project I am about to start, so I want to experiment with the base coat/clear coat system.

Good Luck, and let us know how yours turns out.

Gary H
