I looked up what you are saying about the hole covered up and according to the pic one is covered
:What it said before is that if, when the oil float was installed, is there a gap where it mounts to the block with a gasket or is the oil float too high. This causes suction of air and low oil pressure. By the way I am pulling my hair out too trying to fiqure it out as you are. Do you have a book on the engine? If not maybe I could send pic. if they turn out on your email. or postal delivery to help. ed

: : your gasket should have a large round hole in center and 5 other holes. If it doesen't, along with the pump, you prob. have the wrong oil pump. This is according to the pic. in the book I have.

: : 0 --- very rough drawing. It may not
: : 0 come out right when sent. If you need the right pic. I could send the pic out of the book to you. Ed

: : It's still a prob that's for sure. This is what I've done: A new guage, checked oil pressure line for clog, new drain/return line (from filter canister), new o-ring on oil pan pick-up joint, checked gasket at the pick-up, looked for missing plugs inside galley, pulled pump to check innards, checked gasket matching and ports on engine/pump matchup.

: : : Here's my next question....when I checked for gasket matching I'd noticed that there are 3 (!) ports on the engine block to the pump mounting pad. Now, there should be 3 ports on the pump then....nope. Only have the 2 main ports (in and out) on the pump. The gasket that I'd used didnt have the hole for the 3rd port, it just covered it over and apparently I didnt catch that on assembly. So, I've got an engine with 3 ports and a pump with 2.

: : : Any comments/tips, or maybe even one of those 3 port pumps laying around somewhere.....and what the heck is this pump that I have, for something newer?

: Ed, the pump has five holes (3 for bolts and 2 for flowing oil in and out). But what's quizzing me is that there is an extra hole in the mounting area of the engine block....so this gets covered over by the gasket and pump. Would this be the low pressure prob?

: I'm still getting a tiny bit of flow, approx 2 or 3lbs. If it's my fault in the engine assembling process I could understand having 10-15psi if the crank clearances were poor, but the oil just isnt flowing well in the galley. Still acts like a galley plug was left off, just free-flowing back into the pan.

: still scratching this head of mine.
