I seemed to have gained power throughout the range, more so at the upper end. The engine showed a whole new determination and a willingnes to rev up. Note that this is seat of the pants stuff. As a benefit, I find the motor more responsive to tuning, and starts at the first touch. I found the Solex seems to do better on top end performance than the Carter W-O. I suspect that a higher capacity carb will improve things more.
Without getting technical, the aim is to get the engine to breathe better - large, clean passages with minimal obstructions and easy bends. The castings are rough and poorly aligned. Also, the combustion chamber in the head needs to be polished to remove casting ridges and to prevent the build-up of carbon.
