: The rotor points to the 4:00 o'clock position when #1 piston is at the peak of its compression stroke. Please don't be insulted, but when you hook up your plug wires, remember the rotor rotates counter-clockwise . I forgot this once.

My rotor points closer to 5:30 then to 4. If I remember correctly the indexing of the distributor with the oil pump determines the final location. my engines times with a light and runs great.
