If you are still using a generator that requires an external voltage regulator, then you MUST go through the polarizing process. If you did not polarize the voltage regulator, then is is scrap and you need another new one. You cannot go back and do it over.

You only get one shot at polarization of a voltage regulator, and it is an easy, but necessary process. You just need to follow directions and short a couple of terminals. As soon as you draw the spark then you are home free!!
