some times, not all the time but some times when i hit the starter on my truck it grinds and makes a bad noise, it will then do this for at least 1-2 more times trying to start it, after that it will engage properly is my bushing bad? or what i think it is the right tooth count, i never checked the starter came with the engine already installed so i assumed it was good.

Check the tooth count, my MB was like that before I put in a correct starter.

43 MB, 48 CJ2A, 50 CJ3A, 55 M38A1, 56 CJ5, 79 M151A2, M100 ,65 M416

Or the starter clutch needs attention

yes  that is the part that slides back and forth in the starter with the spring and gear to engage the starter  to the flywheel  Starter clutch...  Bendix same thing   depending your age.
