Can anyone jog my brain? I seem to remember as a kid a 2 speed geared rear end that you would momentarily kick the pedals back to up or downshift still had coaster brakes on your bike. Hope I'm not dreaming again. Thanks for your help!Oh I guess If they exist ,I'm looking for one. If this is the wrong place please feel free to move it. Sandusky

They exist, you can lace a kickback hub to any rim that has the same number of spokes. I've got a couple on bikes myself. There were several versions, one that was an overdrive (chick magnet) and one that was an underdrive. Red, blue and yellow bands around them IIRC... There is a red band coaster brake only Bendix, don't buy one of those by mistake. Te brake arm says" Bendix Automatic Hub" on it. Several Bike forums on the web where you could find one, Rat rod bikes and the CABE..... What bike is it going on? Rim size, spokes, etc..?? Edited by F Bill - 10 Feb. 2014 at 7:58pm |

Won't help you in your search, but....
I had a Schwinn Tiger that I delivered papers with in the early 70's. It was a 2 speed rear axle. Changed gears by tapping the coaster brake.. I think I inherited it from my uncle, so it was a few years old even then. That thing was great for hauling papers. Except for the day Barbara Oaks, (cutest girl in the 7th grade) was sitting on her lawn in her summer shorts. I got slightly distracted and crashed my bike, papers and all, right in front of her.

Years ago I bought plans to build a "Railcycle" I was thinking I'd probably use a "Girls"bike for my Railcycle since its about 8or9" further to the roadbed. I thought it would be a great way to pickup some speed on the straightaway. Thanks for the input, this seems like the longest Winter Ever.

Looks like that garage is filling on up!
Is that an old bike......for some reason the tube size and forks remind me of what they are doing now. How's the Chevette progressing? |

Yes, the garage is just about full. That bike is a new bike with a slight nod to the past. It has 29 inch rims though. The Chevette is moving very slowly, the surgery and a few tuition bills have brought it to a stand still, plus I cannot make up my mind on a powertrain. I always figured I would put a stroked SBC/TH 400 in it, but I have been seeing a lot of cool things done with the LS engines. I can't seem to find a Willys flathead V-8 for it
