The picture may be deceiving, but it's not actually a square base. It is rectangular. I cannot honestly say what it is from. It was in my Jeep when I got it, so I assumed it was from a Willys. I'll try to remember to look for any stamping or indicators.

Freedom21,
Can you get any ratchet action if you hold the retched tube still and just work the retched head back and forth around the ratchet tube? |

I couldn't get any ratchet action no matter what I tried. I think I'll be out in my shop again tonight. I sprayed it before going in the house last night. So I'll see what it does. *I should probably change the title to this thread to "It (sorta) works!" LOL.

Freedom21,
Your initial post inspired me to cut apart and repair my jack. Thanks. Try pulling outwards (compressing the spring)the "UP/Down-knob" while rotating the retched-head around the tube. Use plenty of penetrant through the opening that the rod is suppose to fit. |

I looked at taking mine apart, but of course it's not meant to be disassembled. Did you drill out the rivets? How did you re-assemble it? Pics?
Thanks. I'll give your suggestion at try and let you know how it goes. |

In my case I had to cut the top ratchet tube weld to get inside and repair the twisted and broken T-strip (weak link). After putting it together it was frustrating that the ratchet mechanism was not working.
I was about to cut the rivets off, but plenty of penetrant and working that spring back/forth free it up. |

We now have ratcheting action! Been soaking it with PB Blaster each night. Tonight, I am finally able to get ratcheting up and down.
