Hi all,

I’m looking for a set of 16” wheels width, no less than 6” and no more than 8”. When I say width, I mean inside flange to inside flange, (the correct way to measure them).

If they have a Jeep bolt pattern, great. If not, that is ok. I want them for the shells. Hopefully the shells are approximately 13-5/8” inside diameter. Will buy or trade for them. Looking for at least 4 wheels.

Edit: I’m also looking for stock KH wheels with rusted of rims but have good centers.

Thx

What you planning there Jeff ?
Going to the big 9" x 16" NDT's ?
Maybe these way cool tires .... ?

The widest 16" wheels that Kelsey Hayes ever made were the 6.00 x 16".
They were only used on post 1961 pickups and  FC 170.
That wheel was specifically intended for use with 7.50 x 16" tires.
It has the common Willys standard disk inset @ 3/4".
I actually prefer my rims to be a tad narrow.
In that way the tire will bulge out and help protect the rim

A similar sized KH wheel with different disk offset was made after 1961 for Gladiators.
The Gladiator wheel offset will need to be changed as it is inset much too far for narrow jeeps
The wheel mainly consists of 2 parts called the rim and the disk.
The Gladiator rims are welded to the disk but should be same size 13-5/8" I.D.

I know of a guy in Nevada who has a set of 4 Gladiator rims for sale.

I want to use 6” or bigger shells with the early style KH insert. Correct me if I’m wrong but The later 16 x 6 KH does not look too much like the KH wheels from the ‘40s. I guess I’d be curious depending on price.

A narrow inset is good for me because I have a Dana 30 up front and D44 rear with one inch spacers. I want to maintain a narrow look.

I think the actual inside diameter is 13-1/2”. I just measured them with a tape measure. I can buy the shells new for north of 70 bucks each, but I was hoping someone would have some old 3/4 ton truck wheels they would be willing to sell or trade. I’d cut the 8 lug insert out and put some KHs in. This is experimental. Thanks for reading.

Jeff I think the  late KH heavy duty Willys pickup wheels (not SW's) may fit your needs without any modifications.
They are 6" x 16" wheels and they used the standard 3/4" inset.
Same disk inset that all CJ's and military used.

They are rare as can be... very hard to find a set without buying a late Willys PU.
Harry Sheets once had a full set (5) and on his set the disks were riveted to the rim sections.

The earlier Willys P.U. trucks used the  5" x 16" KH wheels.
That's the same as the wheels your currently running which are the same as M38 and M38-A1 and M606..
And these same  HD 5" rims also were also a rare option for CJ-3B and CJ-5's.
Currently building my final F-134 powered 3B .

I went to Harry first. He told me there is no 16 x 6 KH wheel and that 16 x 5 is the largest.

This morning I bought (4) new 16 x 6 trailer wheels for $145. I figure 36 bucks for new wheels is not bad. I plan on just using the shells.

I’m still interested if anyone has any more or even wider. I’d also be interested in stock KH wheels where the shell is rusted out but the disk is still in good shape. I don’t want to chop up good KH wheels. Thanks for reading.

Cool. Check the inside diameter of the shell and see if it’s 13-1/2” please. At your leisure of course.

If the Gladiator wheels are as rare as they seem to be, they would probably command big bucks.   Of course if they were cheap, I’d be interested but my main goal is to come up with wider 16” KH wheels for my wheeling “class”, and do it using stuff that would not be valuable or rare and would otherwise be old junk. When I widened my combat wheels, I used MdJuan wheels. I would not be able to cut up an original set. I’m currently running 5” wide but I’d like a little wider so when so air down, my tires squat more and roll less.

.... so, I guess I’m saying, I don’t plan on spending big bucks on this experiment and everyone will get more bang for their buck if we trade stuff.

Jeff - I have some early 2A 16" wheels with rusty valve stem holes.  I would need to see if they are KH or MW and count how many I have.
I can look Saturday if you are interested.

Jeff, if you're looking for blank rims, I found them at Hey Wheel www.heywheel.com. They have 16X4.5 through 16X10. Install your own centers. Prices look reasonable to me. I've got a set of rusted out 4.5s that I plan to use in 16X6 blanks some time.
