Wondering if there is anything new that fits my 16" rims. Wouldn't mind a radial. Been looking at these...

Coker Vintage Truck and Military Tires 67640

Firestone  Destination M/T

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Pete

The 16" rims on the 2a/3a were for tubed tires. Do they make radials that fit the KH rim? You could get different rims that were made for newer CJs and put tubeless modern tires on them. Your ride would improve a lot but if you want that vintage look then I wonder if you are limited in your choices then.

You can run tubes in a Radial Tire (granted they have to be tubes designed for radial tires)

Yep, we used to do it all the time back in the day. I can say that I don't know what the difference is however between the tubes.

I'm running 245x75r16 tires on my stock 4.5x16
2a wheels with tubes.
215x75r16 is also a good option.
Good luck

Can a tubeless tire be mounted on a military wheel that has that extra little safety bead?

I have run tubeless 215 85-R 16 radials on KH 16 x 5 without any issues. No safety humps. I've heard that some have issues but I haven't.

I think now a day, most all tubes work with radials. I've run tubes in radials (the box will say if they work with radials). Drove 460 miles mostly on interstate +/- 70 mph.

Not a suggestion, just my experience.

A combat wheel that splits in the middle most likely would not hold air so a tube would be needed.

Here is a Goodyear Duratrac 215-85R16 mounted on a 16 x 5 kh wheel compared to a 700-16 on a 4-1/2" wide wheel:

These are very similar to the Firestone Destination MT except they have siping and are easier to find.

FWIW, a radial tube can be used in a bias tire, but a bias tube cannot be used in a radial tire. That being said, the guy in our local tire shop told me all modern automotive tubes are radial, that way they only need to have one type on hand.

Coker and a couple others make Bias Ply passenger car tires. Also many many different Light truck tires (which a lot of our Jeep sized tires are) are also Bias ply. I used to sell tires.
