I took the block to work and have been slowly removing/ breaking the studs so I can then take it to the machine shop. My Buddy's at work thought they would help me with the Go Devil lack of power complaints. Here are some pictures of there handy work.

Mike, earlier you asked the question as to why the engine was painted blue. My engine is also blue and in a lot of other pics other parts are often blue. Does anyone have the answer to this question?

Yea I believe it was just painted blue as the ser. # is correct for this jeep. I know it does have a different head though so I will try to find a good original head for it.

BW I believe the correct one for my jeep/engine is a 640161 ribbed.  I have seen on the data base that so with that casting # are ribbed and some say non ribbed.  Is this posible?  The head that come with the engine is low compression industrial head. I guess that would be ok if I keep that turbo on it. LOL   let me know what you have. Mike

Here is where I am at right know. I took the block to the machine shop and he found two cracks on the block. I posted in the tech section to get some opinions. Other that the cracks the block has never been bored and will clean up at about .040" and everything else looks good. Here is a picture of the cracks.

Mike there are a couple of things for those cracks that may work, from Marine Tex to stiching, the casting is good on the old engines. Was that a 2554 in the background/ and whose heel? WBM...

John that is a 2954D and I was not sure of your second part of your question ( whose heel ) so I will try to answer.  It is a John Deere heel rack with a Pierce grapple.

Scott that looks good Who did that for you?  That block is a little different but pretty close.

Mike, a local machine shop that has been in business in Charleston SC for 40 plus years, maybe even longer.....Those cracks are common. Think I paid $160 for that fix. then I found another block...Chain drive early 46 VEC. Its still at the same shop. Cracks as well...I'm getting them fixed. Thumbs Up I am the cracked engine block KING...believe meLOL

I'll try to repost the info on heads. In many cases the same head shaved down was what willys sold as a high altitude or higher performance head.
