OK OK stop your whinning don't make me stop this Jeep and come back there! (wow that was a flash to my youth LOL) So its 11:00am Saturday of Memorial Weekend. The Tub the Grill and the Fenders are currently Sealed waiting curing time to be able to sand smooth. The Underside of the Hood is also Sealed (just couldn't figure out a good way to do both sides at once) And here are some photos. The lighting and the color sucks cause Florescent lights and way to many of them. And of course how tight the spray booth is. Overall view interior view showing masked off floor underside of Hood underside front end underside middle underside rear Grill Left step Right inner fender Fenders Left side panel Left Quarter view shows firewall And last but not least the goobered up left side of the dash I have some sanding to do but I'm very happy with how much, Most of the sealer laid down smooth enough to paint without any sanding. So The sanding Sunday afternoon to get the Tub and hopefully Fenders ready for Blue will be doable. If I can get the Sealer on the hood to come out near perfect I might be able to Paint Blue on it as well Monday. If not painting a single piece after work this week is very doable. |

I got the left side of the dash sanded out. Boy was that a chore sanding basically soft Epoxy Sealer not for the inexperienced. Ran down to NAPA and bought the only PSA 400 grit I could find in town some 3M 6" D disc's so now I will make a 6" D sanding pad to go with them. Will be good for the outside of the Hood parts of the Fenders and most of the exterior of the Tub so it will help stretch the small roll I have of the 3M blue stuff I have I really like. Up tomorrow early to get sanding. Hoping to have the Tub done by noon and then the balance of the day on the Hood and Fenders the Grill looks really good so will only take a light scuffing. Will have the heaters running in the Spray Booth tonight for sure gotta make it warm.

Well the Tub is BLUE I am going to take a 30 min break and eat something. I have two coats on the underside the firewall and the interior walls and Dash. I'll get a nice wet coat on the exterior and call it good before it gets to HOT. Photos tonight when The air clears. I'll most likely do the Grill tonight and then finish up the other pieces in the evening this week. I'm soaked from being in that Tyvek suit. |

Grill has a good first coat on it. Going to wait until this evening for the top coat. Tech page says I have 18 hours before I have to scuff it up. So tonight it is. YEA I get to clean the Gun once more today! I am so tired of cleaning this frecking spray gun!!! If painting a vehicle is like child birth then cleaning the spray gun is like changing diapers! Still to go The Hood, The Fenders The Windshield Frame The Tailgate. Its a little darker Blue then I thought it would be. No where near Normandy Blue. Glad I put it over White and not Gray could have only darkened it. The final wet coat went on very well and should color sand and buff out nicely.. I did get a little bit of a rough finish on the front ends of the Wheel houses due to over spray from doing the Sides of the Wheel Houses. I doubt I will worry about it to much as its behind the seats. The Dash could have flowed out a little better it is clear I will need to color sand and buff that as well. And of course while its still on the rotisserie so I can still use the rotisserie to help me stuff things into the dash.

OK so a couple photos first one Tub in the Spray booth kind of impossible to see the color. So I dragged the Grill out into the SUN!!!! WOW now thats what I wanted PACIFIC BLUE I pulled the paper off the floor and while for some reason the floor is covered with dust. The Black floor and the Blue Tub look real good together. I can't wait to see what it looks like with all them White Oak strips in place. Not to mention the Dash full of Stewart Warner Deluxe gauges. Neighbor and I looked it all over and couldn't find but one run and its in the depression for one of the Park lights so no concern. The Dash is pretty rough as far as texture goes I think both painting the Cowl and the Side walls put a lot of over spray on it. SO I'll be 800, 1500, 2000 grit wet sanding it out (but thats ok we know I am good at sanding and grinding LOL) The exterior of the tub is as good as I could have hoped for. A little color sanding and it will look great. I decided to not put another coat on the Grill the one I have on it is pretty heavy and it layed out VERY nice I don't think it needs another coat I'll go straight to 1500/2000 grit on it. NOW to get the Hood and fenders looking this good

Ford currently has a blue that's popular on Mustangs, similar to Chug's new color. It's a head turner. Fantastic job on the 'Chug tub'! Just hope your compact paint booth's air circulation system functioned as planned!

The booth air system could have worked better a third fan would not have hurt. I changed the filters after the sealer and black. And I will do it again before I shoot the hood etc. My masked worked very well but its getting changed as well.

SO I missed my window for putting top color over the Epoxy Sealer/Primer. SO I have the Fenders, and Hood to sand out. Which is OK as I decided I wanted another coat of Epoxy on the outside of the Hood and all over on the Fenders. I got the Right fender sanded and will have the Left by the end of today. Then I need to do some runs on the inside of the Hood and then give the exterior of the Hood a quick scuffing up. I'll shoot the Sealer soon as I can this Week after work. Then if its good to go (not needing sanding) I will shoot color the next evening. I found some weird dark lines in the paint on the cowl. Its like there is a roughly but varying line of darker color just under the surface of the paint. No clue how it could have got there only on the curves where it drops down to the Lower Cowl pieces on BOTH sides of the Cowl. I have a feeling it will disappear with color sanding. If not I guess the Cowl gets another coat of color. I found that the Black on the front of the Tool box right by the Side Joint Doubler is very rough and maybe thin. Son in Law didn't do so good in that area. Hoping I don't have to touch it up. Be a lot of Masking for a small area. Not looking forward to all the Color sanding. And the Buffing is something I have almost zero experience with. So should be scary. Work will be proceeding at a much slower pace I made a deal with the wife that when the Jeep was in Primer I would get to work finishing up the front porch (OK so it has been like 7 years she says) that will burn up at least 4 full work days which depending on WORK could be 2-4 weeks. I still get to work on CHUG in the evenings but MAN is it hard to do more then an hour or so after a 10 hour day driving the Dump truck. BUT the last stuff on the shopping list will be no trouble affording now. later

Is there any metallic in that color? A piece of tape over the sharp edges can help when buffing, I have a talent for finding out just how thick the paint is with a buffer (and going right by it).
