Nice pic.
There is a similar tanker at the New England Air Museum. Next time I go I'll take a pic of it! Jerry |

I stand corrected, they were built on Crosley drive trains. http://crosleyautoclub.com/GasPorter/GasPorter.html

They must have really liked their Jeeps. I found this photo online showing a CJ-3A at the same airport parked next to a '49 Ford.

The top is definitely an early CJ-2A top with the metal window frames. It might be a 3A with older parts or a 2A with a new windshield.

Early CJ-3As also used the small metal framed windows.

What do you mean? That's a stock 3A windshield. |

What color top is that? I say gray. The windows also appear to be flexible clear plastic vs. the hard sheet plastic of early 2A tops.

Regarding the top & all the commentary about the 2 tops shown in the 2 pictures, wouldn't the rear side curtains from the 2A tops fit with a later 3A top? I'm probably demonstrating clear ignorance of the differences in tops for the 2 models, given that they did have different attachment on the windshields, but I don't know if the bows were different from model to model.

I think the bows were the same, but the 3A's seats are set back farther than a 2A's and I think that means the bows are further back than a 2A. Anybody know for sure?

I agree. The 2A top looks olive drab while the 3A top looks more gray. |
