I ran into an ad for an aluminum tub for a CJ2A/CJ3A this morning and found it intriguing although a bit on the expensive side.   Anyone have any experience with these?

Doesnt seem more expensive than steel and it if course won't rust, but... what about the strength of it? Also welding on it may be harder.

Here's a modified one I found for sale: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/vehicles-trailers-sale/2556377-jeep-cj2a-custom-aluminum-body-frame.html

I'm curious to see how they'd hold up against trees and rocks. But I bet they'd be cool for a racing Jeep.

LOL I could see a bunch of sacrificial zinc anodes plastered all over the underneath side of the tub. Kind of like you have to do if you are operating outboard motors or aluminum hulled boats in the ocean. Without the anodes it doesn't take long to eat aluminum up.

Inboard drives have at least 3 sacrificial anodes on them. If we leave a hamburger on the grill too long, It is our sacrificial anode for the grill.

Oops, I did forget the link.   Same outfit, but for the rest of the bits:

Having spent 20 years in Naval Engineering, dissimilar metal corrosion was my first thought too.  But I was thinking salted winter roads more than beach running.

I did notice that they put in a MB type glovebox in the dash.  If I was building one, I'd want that, the CJ2A toolbox under the passenger seat and the MB wheelhouse toolboxes for storage as well.  I tend to look more for a daily driver type Jeep and my previous experience with Jeeps has been that you can't have too many places to stash stuff out of sight.
