In search of better head lights for my 2A…

I  know about the Sylvania 7" round lights but thought, since my 2A is intended for off-road, I'd look for something brighter.

IPF makes a 7" round H4 Special Halogen Head Lamp and offers a 170/100 Watt H4 12V bulb to fit the three prong original equipment head light plug on the Willys. I bought a set (about $180 for the complete kit) and have worked with them to assemble the new lamps in the stock HL buckets. I plan on using #12 wire with separate relays for the high beams and low beams. This will be mounted on the standard headlight loom position (with 30 amp fuses).

It looks like they will fit, except I will need to move one of the stand-off tabs on the bulb housing about one inch to fit the stock 2A inner buckets. They are spot welded, so I think that I can drill out the spot welds, move the tab and solder it back in the correct position. I don't think epoxy will work due to the heat generated by this very hot bulb. When I get the wire headlight covers from Adrian, I will see if I can successfully assemble the lights, covers and buckets.

I'll post photos if I can make this work.

A friend of mine has a pair of these in his newer jeep and they are quite impressive. They have a flat smooth lens and throw and amazing amount of light.

I plan on looking into a pair for Chug A Lug and using the wire basket type covers as well.

I'm surprised more people don't run the trucklite led 7" 12v headlight. I had them in 24v in my m35a2 and they are freaking extremely bright!

There is a limit as to whats legal of on road use here in Oregon I think the H4's have to be less then 100 watt could even be 55 Watts.

I have been looking lately at a Rampage conversion H4 setup Summit racing sells.

7 inch off the shelf halogen sealed beams work fine for me. A Jeep's headlights are so close together that most people will flash you anyways for too bright a set. Perhaps a light bar for off road? Maybe a vintage spotlight? Those are way cool looking too. Wink John
