I bought the kit from North Atlantic offroad specialties.  But my parts store says all parts except the bracket are for a 1978  Chrysler La Barron.  They advertise no grinding and that it fits stock wheels.  My Willys truck wheels seem to fit fine.

Yes, did you have to redrill them (since they obviously are 5 on 5 1/2) or did they come drilled? And I imagine the center bore has been bored to fit the jeep hub.

This is basically the same setup I used except with more affordable parts (I used Corvette parts) seems like a good way to go......do you have any 'before' pictures of the brackets and rotors?

Are the calipers 4 piston or 2?.............(this was one advantage to the Corvette's they are four)

Good question Roc and Bob.  My parts guy just said they were LeBaron parts, I am guessing from the question that Lebarons were not the Willys bolt pattern.  I will go back and see if they can ID the rotor.  It does clear my 16 inch wheels.  I will ask Johnnybravo if he has any 15 inch wheels to test fit.

Are you using the stock master cylinder? If so does there need to be any other modifications to the brake system? Thanks and good luck on your conversion.

I am clearly wrong on the rotors, I can't see where Lebarons ever had 5 on 5 1/2 lug pattern.  Some Dodge trucks have 5 on 5 1/2 lugs but the large center hole that Willys wheels have is the catch on many weels with that lug pattern like Ford truck wheels.  I printed off a lot of data today so I think I can eventually ID the correct rotors.  Again, the rotors I used were not redrilled, they are off the shelf.  I just haven't pinpointed which shelf.  I will take pics of the seperate components and post.

rdunnebacke, the PO scrapped the original brake system and installed the master cylinder on the firewall and used hanging pedals.  I will use a new firewall master cylinder.  I have read some posts scattered around the internet where the stock master cylinder was used.  Some use a dual system that is still frame mounted and a metering valve.  I may have some of those posts archived.  If I find them I will send you a PM.

Are you keeping the drum brakes on the rear axle?

Yes, drums on rear.  I am trying to decide whether to use stock of the 11 inch drums from the front.  If my parts store can get all the parts I will use the 11's.  I know I can get all the parts for the stock 9's.  However I cracked both 9 inch drums during removal so I will have to replace.

There will not be much cost difference in using the 11".  All of the parts are available.

I may be wrong or Lebaron brakes might be similar, but the set up looks like what I had on my 80 CJ5. on my CJ2A i used brake rotors off of a cj 5 with the chevy backing plates

Ralf,

Where did you get the closed knuckles with BOTH the draglink and tierod attachment points???  I need those badley!  I have the disc conversion in my 46 and love it, but my steering is worthless!  I've been trying to 'make' what you have and have not been successful...

Any help is appreciated!

Matt

Matt, the passenger side knuckle came with the CJ2a as PO had put the saginaw swap but it was sloppy.  I saw one of those knuckles for sale on Craigslist but it is gone.  I do have the guys # so I will try to call him to see where he got it.

Matt, I talked to the guy and he said only came on the 1971 Comandos, the last year Kaiser owned Willys.  Maybe some late 70's also.  He sold the loose one but has a complete front axle with 10 inch drum brakes that he wants to sell as unit.  I don't think you want to ship an axle from WV to ND.  It is a Dana 30 with 3:73's.  You may want to search for a passenger side 71 Comando passenger side knuckle.

Unless you're just wanting to change out your knuckle, this is the easiest way to get the same thing....(and you may already have one of these tie rod ends laying around.)
