Just wondering, has anyone ever removed the dashboard cane and come up with a simple lever type between the seats handle? Those dashboard handles always seemed kind of wimpy to me.

Didn't Dr. Vern do that?  Not that it helps anything, seeing as how he's gone incommunicado for the last few years...

If the originals are in good condition and adjusted correct there shouldn't be any need to modify it. We need all the space we can get in these rigs.

For a floor mount hunt up an old Pinto or Mustang II, and see what you think.....they were good enough for Lokar to copy and sell to all the street rodders.

It's not a matter of function I just don't like that thing sticking out of the dashboard.

A lot of old cars had a cane type under the dashboard.  I've owned several 65 Chevy/GMC pickups over the years and they use an underdash lever on the left side of the steering wheel that pulls out towards you.  I've always liked that one best myself.  Probably because I've owned so many of them and were what I learned to drive on the road in!
