I would replace the spindle. It appears that there is wear on the part where the inner wheel bearing rests and the surface the wheel seal runs on is really rusty. I doubt that it would clean up.

about to tackle the leaky timing cover gasket.  Dropping the oil pan too.

Is the Indian head shellack the right stuff to put on the cork seals here?

I've had my best luck with cork gaskets dry. Anything you put on them will make them slippery and want to squeeze out. JMO, after 50 years. (You WILL get plenty of different opinions)    BW

the more I read the more opinions I see

Same for the order.   Some say oil pan, then timing cover.  Others are the reverse.

I'll try dry gaskets.

I would put the cover on before the pan. Install the crank pulley before you tighten the cover bolts so the seal will be centered on the shaft. Then put the pan on. One of the few places you'll catch me using silicone is just a bit at the corner of the block/cover/pan. Don't overtighten. When you see the gasket START to move between the parts, STOP! Make sure the pan and cover gasket surfaces are flat before you start. Most have been overtightened and dimpled around the bolt holes.  HTH  BW

I agree with Bruce.  Cover first, then pan.

I am quite fond of the fibrous pan gasket made by Felpro (USA).  It is far less prone to squish-out when tightening your bolts.  I do dab a very light coat of sealant on both sides.

trying to get a vehicle from a farm in NY with no title and registration on the road in NJ is a losing battle.

if it was that easy, I’d have left already.

House is so underwater, I just hope for the worse for it.  Cert for work doesn’t transfer to other states.  Then...there’s the exit tax if you leave NJ.  I can’t even move 30 miles to PA and keep working in Jersey thanks to that fat ass governor we finally voted out. Angry

Exit tax??  So you're basically a prisoner of NJ??  Just in a very large prison...  A big lottery win or a well-timed house fire would be the best you can hope for, it seems.  I feel sorry for ya!

Walck’s delivery yesterday!

Enough self pity.  New brake lines are going on today.

finally got brakes done.  Went on to seal up some leaks.  Which has led, again, to another order of parts!  😁👍

Found the camshaft oil slinger bent and rubbing.  Almost sealed it up the way I found it.  🤷‍♂️ ...almost
