I'm in central Wisconsin, just bought this Jeep in February as a long term project. Learned an awful lot from this forum.

Thanks. It doesn't really add much to the lefty research, other than it exists.

48walker,

Nice Jeep! Can you post a shot of the spare tire mount, mounted on the Jeep?  Your appears to be in a different orientation than what I have seen on other Leftys.  I actually like the orientation of yours because it looks to sit a little farther back then most I have seen.

Also a picture or two of the engine compartment would be nice to see.

Thanks,

Stev

Thanks. The plan is to clean up the wiring once I get the turn signals worked out.
Stev, on the orientation of the tire mount, maybe it's just the lousy picture quality-as far as I can tell, it looks to me like it's in the same place and angle as the ones I've seen on other jeeps.

48walker,
Thanks for the photos.  Do the bolts pick up all four of the support holes in the brackets mounted on the inside of the fender for the tire mount?  The tire mount is a rectangle and in order for them to rotate the tire mount they would need to move the holes in the horizontal bracket back.

Nice to see a 1948 that is still 6 volts.  The horn and the oil bath breather look to be earlier style than 1948.  Pretty complete looking engine compartment - nice Jeep!

So I have a question???? Would it be feasible to figure a Serial number by setting a standard way to calculate it, because of missing tags like taking the ACM# and Eng# add and divide by 2?
example: ACM 169671
              ENG J192739
 ACM+ENG=   362410/ 2
                =SN 181205

its a difference of 11534 in my case, which is close to the Service bulletin expected 12k +/- 150

few ive checked with have been with 500ish of actual SNs

Here is my starting point with what I got, old owner changed it over to 12v thus the single wires running lose.

Boy that looks familiar. I like the idea of keeping it 6v, but sure would like a winch and the option of using a tachometer.

Stev, here's a picture, you can make out bolts at the top and bottom. I don't think the bolt pattern is in a perfect rectangle. Assuming mine is stock, I don't think it can be rotated using the original holes, if that's what you mean.

48walker,

This is AWESOME! I have never have seen a factory Lefty with the tire mount clocked 90 degrees out so the two studs are on top like standard passenger side mount.  All of the other Leftys I have seen pictures or in person have just one stud on top and the two bolts on the bottom.  Very cool.  So much for even 6 weeks of consistency out of the factory.

Yours is a truly unique Lefty among Leftys from what I have seen.

Put a PTO winch on it and keep it 6 volts.

So 4 mounting bolts, 1 in each corner, is not the standard mounting?     Edit-OK,had to look at some pictures-so the whole mount was turned and bolted on 90 degrees from how they're supposed to be. Maybe someone on the line sneezed when he picked it up out of the bin. Wonder what else was bolted on sideways?
