I am kicking around the idea of making a few tops and again I say "kicking around the idea".  I'm curious to see what youns think would be the more popular product.  Whatever I do, I am not interested in doing full tops.  Those are time consuming.  I want to make something that is relatively fast to make, serves the purpose and is affordable.  I know several have expressed interest in a bikini tops.  I was thinking about making some dusters something like this:

It would be similar to an MB duster, but with the large arch opening in the back.  I'd like it to look somewhat like the period.  I also think that this is better than an MB duster because it would not capture as much wind.  For the most part, A top like this would be all the covering you need.  It would keep the rain and sun off you and it would have a vintage look.

I would prefer to make them from #8 OD cotton duck with OD type I webbing for the binding and period correct straps, buckles and fasteners.

Is this something you guys would be interested in or is it the bikini tops that everyone wants.  I'd prefer to make one or the other.  I think I could make these for about $200.

I just bought a nice sewing machine that is made to do this stuff and I'd like to tool up to do some canvas work.  The money I make would go into sewing equipment.  Like I said, I don't want to do any huge projects just yet because I never know when life will get in the way.  I also want to spend some time with my jeeps.

Let me know what yall think or if it's a different kind of top you want or if the demand is not worth it.  What ever, I may do, I want it to be simple and inexpensive.

Having done a Colorado spring run with a leaky bikini top, I would be very interested, especially if windows or some sort of panel could be added or at least something to keep the rain out.. I think Bruce W SHOULD be interested, and maybe Emily would buy one for him....lol..
Also in Texas sunshine a full top would be very nice to keep sun off the solar collector..

Did you get a Sailrite machine or ???

I love it.  I assume it would fit stock top hardware.  Would it be something that could be converted to accomodate doors and panels later?  Regardless, the price is right and I would love to have one.

I'd be interested.  The design above, that would that be all one piece?

I'd be interested in the duster if it fits the topbows set!

OD would be fine. Even though it would not be original, I liked the look of the OD canvas with the normandy blue.

I'd be interested in one. This thread will contain the final design, material, and timeline for availability?

Jeff,

I will buy one as you have designed it.  I'm cool to the idea of bikini tops only because I already have two that Matt made.
