I'm trying to to seeing the issue extends to all Apple products or is a special treat for iThings.

Here's the deal on why iThings cannot see YouTube videos.  It is because YouTube has changed the URL from which they serve embedded videos in order to comply with European directive on setting cookies.  In the past, I think that YouTube accommodated Apple devices and other without support for Flash by serving the videos using HTML5.  For some reason, the new URL for serving embedded videos serves only Flash and does not yet accommodate iThings which require HTML5.

WebWiz Bruce explained it in a support forum thread here although that explanation does not completely satisfy me because of the fact that Safari users no longer see the correct Movie icon.  I bet that we will find out that WebWiz messed up something in complying with the European directive.
