I have a working set of 12V headlights, but they are pretty poor.

I would like to know if there is a headlight upgrade that fits the standard Willys headlight socket. I've looked at a bunch of lights on line, but I cannot determine whether they will work without alterations.

MikeS. Is your Jeep 6 or 12 volt. I know, dumb question after you mentioned 12v headlights. Check with NAPA. The six volt number LMPH6006.

The Willys was 12V... I think I will stay with 12V system as I rebuild. The headlights will need to be 12V. I have a working set, but they are really dim.

I was wondering is there a substantially better 12V headlight available that will fit the bucket/socket?

Hugh - that sounds like what I am looking for. Do you have a Sylvania part number?

Thanks to Hugh and Scout Pilot!

No matter what bulbs you buy, check your grounds for cleanliness and tightness. That may be the only problem.

Hugh, did you need to change the bulb sockets from the standard Willys three post socket? I have a very nice, original looking wire harness with the original light sockets. Would like to stay with this if at all possible.

Thanks!

they have three posts and are identical to the old lights. the only difference is that they are halogen and much brighter.

H6024 is the part number and theyre sold at walmart and just about anywhere. 6024 is the old number and H6024 denotes halogen.

 Hugh

Thanks for taking the time to find and provide the information.

Decided on Slyvania H6024 EV (55/65) - they are pretty inexpensive and should do the job.

i think mike gardner has some fancy 12v bulbs, i liked how bright they looked but they do this weird half on all on thing that i don't like the look of for my rigs, but that is purely personal opinion.

I used to have a set of Marchal headlights back in the '70s on my Willys wagon they were H4 bulbs and not legal for the highway, but heck I was a teenager and knew everything way back them. They were super bright and are very pricey now but here's a H4 setup on epay that might be an option for ya

I just bought a set of KC sealed beam conversion headlights. They use a standard H4 halogen, but are a bit pricey around $100 for a set on amazon. I'll let you know how they work once they get here.

I had a set of those as well in my VW. I loved them. Especially with 100 watt bulbs in them..lol.

How about running the power to the lights through a relay as discussed in the link below? Makes sense to me. Hiding the relay could be a bit of a challenge if you're wanting to keep original appearances.

Wheelie - thanks for posting that link. VERY good idea. The headlight relay and the Halogen lights should fix all my problems.

Thanks again for all the help, gentlemen!
