Get a gas shield welder. 220 V. The flux core ones work but they sort of look like ugly welds, too much splatter.
As said, clean metal to weld to.
When I did my body work I had 2 right angle grinders. I should have had 3.
One with a cut off wheel, one with a grinding wheel, and one with a flap sanding disk.
That gauge metal is interesting to weld. Practice grasshopper.

Prepped parts look good, but you have two different kinds of wheels?
There's a reason it's called Ol' Unreliable

I think the wheels thing is just a strange camera angle, I hope.

No, unfortunately it appears you have two sets of two different wheels.....raised center around the lugs on one and flat on the others.

Put two of the same ones on one side and it will be harder for anyone to tell a difference. If it is something that really bothers you, search for the "Correct" set but don't let this slow you down on finishing this and enjoying it!

Are you sure this hood needs shrinking work done to it? From what I can see it just has some dents that could be worked with a hammer and dolly. At any rate, be VERY careful applying any form of heat to this panel. It looks to be in really good shape.

Here's to a speedy recovery.  My back has been junk for decades, the sins of my youth.  Aggravating, but not such that I'll let someone cut on me... yet LOL

(fwiw, and I know it's been over a year now, it looks like you may have two KH rims and two MW rims.  I have read of "family jeeps" where the rims are all but certainly factory being KH/MW mixed sets, or having one oddball.

Willys was apparently notorious for burying old stock line parts with new as deliveries came in and using what they had as they had it.)

That is really interesting about the rims...thanks for that.. I think I might just put matching on the front and backs..Might get  to painting them soon Going Harvest tan and sunset orange.. I like what this guy did with his rims I have seen this on posters-- but I don't think they ever painted them this way... Any  thoughts?

Again, just from memory... there was some discussion about two tone rims based largely on a paint on photograph advertisement that appeared to be two tone, but if I recall correctly the concensus was no one has ever found any in the wild (as opposed to in captivity like those, lol).

I just read through your project thread and you have made a lot progress. Did you use a chemical stripper to get all the old paint off?  Whatever it was did a great job, but wondering how the process went.

Thanks..
I used this Aircraft paint remover.. Make sure you use it outside .. the stuff will kill you..and industrial rubber gloves.
but works great for multiple layers of paint.. works fast and don't need much. then just washed it off with a hose and dried it.. sanded or wire brushed it..

The stripper does work well, but the funny part is if you read the label carefully, it says " not for use on airplanes"Confused
