Mike,

I did make it to be snug.
Just going to paint it.
If it does not work out it’s easy enough to redo it down the road.
Well a good tight coat of epoxy then. I’ve always had bad luck with anything ferrous on top of a battery. It looks great though I want one

6 March 2019 at 5:09 PM .... my Jeep came alive.
It was a good day.

That’s Ken in the grey manning the carburetor. I’m in the blue hitting the start switch. Ken is the brains behind this operation. He drops in about once every 6 weeks and helps me out when I’m in over my head. Between visits I do all the grunt work till I get in over my head. I couldn’t have gotten this far without his help. Very appreciated!!

Looking great. I hope to road trip up 101 to Victoria and then Vancouver someday. Would be great to go on a jeep cruise together.

You guys are welcome anytime.

I had a bit of a setback today. Ran the engine again to try some fine tuning. I noticed an oil leak out the bottom of the oil filter canister so I removed and replaced the bottom fitting. That helped a bit but a small bit of oil is still leaking from the edge of the disc at the bottom of the canister. Apparently it is not unheard of to get pinhole leaks in this location. It was suggested that I try to braze it or just replace it. I have found a couple used ones locally so hopefully that works out.

Fortunately it was a nice sunny day in Tsawwassen and I was able to wrench outside.🙂

I picked up another oil filter canister yesterday from another local jeeper. It’s a bit different size but no matter. We will try seal up the original by brazing the seam. But in the meantime I’m going to clean this one up and try it out. I need to slightly modify the mounting strap but that’s no big deal.

I also built a platform to house the ignition parts until I get the body mounted.

New oil filter is on and works great. No oil leaks anymore.

We added some sealant to the rear left corner headbolt thread and fixed the water seeping from the small chip in the block.

I was having carburetor issues so Ken and I had a good look at it and I had not quite assembled it properly. So we made the required adjustments and it ran better but would not stay running without full choke applied. I got some advice online and blew compressed air through the low speed circuit and that fixed the problem. The engine runs and idles great now.

I just painted my exhaust with 1000C header paint so hopefully that holds up. Just need to tweak and bleed the brake lines and I’ll get the exhaust in. Then it’s time for body work.

Electrolysis 2.0
It worked so well on the rusty head I thought I would do my last two rims with this method. Cheaper than media blasting.

So far the wheel looks pretty good.
After brewing for 24 hours I gave it a scrub with a Brillo pad and it cleaned up nicely. There was some more stubborn material on ther so I’m going to let it brew overnight. But I’m happy with the result so far.

I also cut up some material to build a tub rotisserie. Ran out of time to do any welding though.

The wheel came out pretty good. It’s very pitted however.

I made some progress on the rotisserie today.
One more afternoon of fabricating and I’ll be ready for body work.
