tub work is for the most part done. Spent a couple hours on the hood with a hammer and dolly. It's going on as is. Only one spot the size of a nickel did I need filler. The rest is the natural waves of time!
Column is ordered. I think i may go ahead and order paint today. |

I'm sorry, I try desperately to focus on the work stage center, and find myself distracted in your workspace... ;)

Good to see the Garage Gargoyle on top of the cabinet. Got to keep the Garage Gremlins out!

wait.....what? don't all of you guys have a garage gargoyle??? I thought it was a thing! He watches over my junk and has for better than a decade.
I'm pretty lucky to have this space. We - myself and a handful of really good friends - built it around 14 years ago. Looking back, it was incredibly naive of me to take on this project. I drew a very rough plan on a Staples poster board and brought it to city hall. Unbelievably, they gave me a permit and the rest is history. The only thing I paid someone to do was the foundation and floor. The rag tag group that we were did all the rest.

If you can get a building permit that easy are you looking for a job? Building inspector's office 50 yds to the left, town hall 300 yds to the right, police station 300 yds straight ahead, and I'm dead center of a historical district. I need a permit to change a light bulb and my house is about 275 years old to make things more interesting.

Andy my barn watcher is Sammy the cat. He keeps the real pests away. leecarr, my closest neighbor is over 300 yards away. Must be a pain in the butt to live that close to everyone else. My neighbors probably don't even hear me swear. Not that I do that much, working on the Jeeps and all.

Not as bad as it sounds, I'm in the center of a real old town, mostly woods in every other direction. Anything I can see from my yard is at least a 100 years old.

Did some work on the grill. Filled all the pits. Some were deeper than I expected.
Being in trucking, I had to figure some truck parts would land here. These little LED marker lights from my newest trailers are killer. Using the rubber grommet, I'll install them in the grill. Then, I'll cover them with the stock lenses. They are super bright, completely waterproof and should last forever. Steering column is due in tomorrow. Went with a nostalgia column from Speedway. I'm not a fan of the look of a tilt column. So this one looks the part and comes with a quick disconnect steering wheel hub. Little security as well and some room for me to get in and out the damn thing.... Edited by nofender - 29 May 2017 at 9:48pm |

"and some room for me to get in and out the damn thing...." I'm going to cut the wheel well and move the seat back, not as slim as I used to be. |

Around here, we call that the man muscle. Yup, the old beer belly. That's why I moved my stock column into the cut out of the dash, went with a Steiner tractor 15 inch wheel and cut out the wheel well. Nows there is plenty of room for the old man muscle. Hey, it is what it is.

You could do the silly thing like I did and drop around 100 Lbs. I don't have to wear black shirts anymore when I drive the B to avoid the black belly blight. I did move the steering column up on mine and showed my brother how to move his. I thought I had a belly... |

If I drank much beer I'd have to sit in the back. I had plenty of room in my cj5 when I was 20, I think jeeps were bigger then. Maybe I'll put some cutting brakes in it and steer it like a bulldozer, free up a little more room.

Column is here...
This is the final fab project on the tub. Once done, I can blow it all apart and do a final sand then paint. I was really baffled with the throttle pedal. nothing was lining up. I couldn't seem to get enough travel, etc. I was about to modify the tub in order to use a Lokar billet pedal I have. Then a light went off.....I have the throttle bracket on the block mounted upside down. Duh. The stock style set up will work just fine. |

Well it's been a little bit since i updated.
I've got the steering column mounts all built. Steering u-joints and shafts are here. So I'll finally be able to make the connection between the steering wheel and the steering box. Anyway....Today I rebuilt the windshield frame. Overall the frame was straight. But 70 years of holes. broken off screws and rust took their toll. I welded up every hole - stopped counting at 40.....yeah 40. In any case, I'm happy with the results. I'm very impressed with the Classic Enterprises panel. It fit nearly perfectly with minimal work. |

Steering.....
The final connection from the column to the steering box was proving to be a challenge. I tried several configurations, none to my liking. working around the motor plate was tough. Then it dawned on me.....go through the motor mount. Sure enough there is enough room to snake the steering shaft through there. Oh it's tight....but it worked!! Need to reroute the brake line for the final install. But you get the idea. |

nothing too exciting to report. Just been too busy to do much.
I did manage to add the top bow studs to the windshield frame. The inner shield is ready to blast and paint. Next up is the fender restoration. I hope to accomplish that this weekend. |
