Got to the point of pulling the axles for blasting and painting.  opened diff and drained the oil.  all the gears looked good.  Questions about the axle shafts.  THe bearings seem to be fine. rotate well no up and down play. I though about pulling the shafts and replace the inner seals but the races seem stuck.  I've researched various ways to get the stuck shafts out but should I even do that if the bearings seem fine.  any advice would be appreciated

It should be easy to pull the shafts if you have a slide hammer or some other form mechanical pulling assistance.
The original axle shaft seals were made of leather.
New replacement rear seals are all of neopreme composition.
The new seals are of solid construction minus having a lip tension band. (no internal spring)
I have found the original leather seals did a much better job of sealing than do the new solid neoprene seals.
I have installed new solid design neoprene type and they sometimes do not seat around the shaft.
Really no way to determine condition of your present seals without seeing them.

FORGET THE SLIDE HAMMER MOST PLACES DON'T HAVE THE SIZE OF THE AXLE,
JUST USE YOUR BRAKE DRUM AND WITH THE NUT AND USE IT AS A HAMMER.
WITH JUST A FEW HITS THE BEARINGS SHOULD START TO MOVE AND THAN YOU
CAN GET TO THE SEAL.

My axle seal was behind the bearing.
