Hope all my friends at Hoosier Willys have caught this. To the rest of the world that has not had the chance to run with us you might not be aware of some of the available sights and history all available within just a few miles of this years event.

To me touring the WWII established Camp Atterbury grounds, which is still active, is one of the highlights. Just a few miles north of the conference HQ via a very scenic country ride, are the Camp Museum, static display of hardware from WWII through Viet Nam and the POW Chapel. If you check the Hoosier Willys threads you may be able to find pictures from previous Hoosier Willys visits to the camp. Their FB page address is: https://www.facebook.com/Camp-Atterbury-378309211693/ and I think there may be a link to the D0D website with more current info and history.

Of course most wouldn’t dream of visiting this area without making a run through Brown County State Park. The main or north entrance (through a rare and still in use double lane covered bridge) is just a few short miles down from Conference HQ, just around the the bend from Gnaw Bone - but before you get to Nashville! http://www.browncountystatepark.com

Now you talk about your tourist trap, artist colony, antique and other unique shops; lets just say it’s also referred to as "Little Gatlinburg". http://www.nashville-indiana.com This website seems to offer some perspective after a discouraging visit to their FB page but if you Google Nashville you can plan a full days exhausting visit - if you’re into that sort of thing.

I would be remiss if I didn’t also mention that the town of Columbus itself is quite well known in some circles. Not only as the home of Cummings engines but also some fine modern structures. http://www.columbus.in.gov
Of course everyone knows it’s the home of Tony Stewart!

Hope you make it over Joe Friday, I’ll be driving my 45 down and you can maybe do a little comparison on our rides. Gotta tell you up front though, is not original.

I don't know if you have ever been to the Indy 500 or have any interest in seeing the place, but if so, this year's spring reunion is perfect timing.  Practice will take place the week of the 15th (see here).

Maybe fly in a day early, visit the track and some of the museums in Columbus.  That way you could be nice and rested (and even get a sneak peek) for the swap meet.

lhfarmbt brings up a good point about Indy and more stuff to do. In conjunction to the track being open for practice, the museum will also be open and is a good self-guided tour with a lot of auto/racing history. I would think they had a Willys wrecker or two working the track at one time or another but not represented there.

If you and or then spouse & kids are going into Indy for the sights they are pretty proud of the Childrens Museum. There is also a pretty good zoo and the Ideljorg and Indiana State museums are all close together on west Washington just past the canal. And speaking of the Canal Walk, the Medal Of Honor walkway on the canal is quite impressive for those interested in military history I understand there are tributes to every recipient of the MOH and their likeness with an interactive account of the deeds that earned them the medal. (please note I said EARNED, tehy didn’t WIN it out of a box of Cracker Jacks! (little peave of mine).

Last weekend I drove south of the area where the Reunion HQ will be and followed State Road 135 south from SR 46 near the north Brown County State Park entrance. It’s a paved road but quite the scenic countryside - and a very windy, hilly ride. I haven’t plotted anything out for the return ride if you should decide to cruise that route but it is a way to spend an extra day.

I just yesterday heard from The folks running the Alaska or Rust 2017. They want to have a charity swap meet space selling donated items at the Spring Reunion. If you guys have some parts you'd like to donate to the effort, please let me know.

Several members of the old Jeep community are involved including David Eilers from eWillys, Scott Gilbert, Bill Reiss, Merlin Hanson, Marty Tilford, etc. They will also be selling shirts to offset the cost of the trip.

Read more about it at:

I'm just confirming now and working on a head count, but, as a special 25th anniversary event, we will be having a hog roast friday night at Mill Race Park, just down the street from the hotel. The event is free for anyone registered.

You might want to bring your own chairs though!

I'm not able to make this (one daughter Sr. prom 5/19, the other daughter graduating college 5/20... the wife says if I go to Indiana that weekend I should look into apartments while I'm there LOL).

I'm trying to put together a swap with someone attending the reunion, and sort logistics.  If there is anyone in the northeast (MA, CT, RI, eastern lower NY, southern VT/NH/ME) headed to this event (lol, and coming back Wink) that would be willing to facilitate a prisoner exchange for me it would be greatly appreciated.
