Tim, I never even considered the capacitor until Dennis mentioned it on the phone.  Now I've got to go take a look to see how I can access it.  All the data labels on the outside of the motor have been painted over, so I can't see if there was anything there that described the capacitor.  I'll have to take the motor apart, or take part of the housing off to get to it.  And you're right, I don't know of any good electrical supply shop in Salida.  I may have to make a trip to Colorado Springs to get the part.  Or order it online from McMaster-Carr.

We do have a supply of capacitors with limited ranges.  The MFD or UF range is usually listed on the side of the capacitor.  You can see that range here.  64-77uf.  If you can find the range, and I have it, I'll send you one.

Mike, Hopefully the capacitor will fix the problem. I have actually seen well pumps do the same thing but I had a brain fart and missed the clues. At least you got plenty of advice on what to look out for if you run into problems again. Good luck and I hope it works. Mike

Hey Tim,
Got any Flux Capacitors? That way maybe I could be at school (where I work) then go back in time and be at the FCT too. Course I don't think Grampa's Jeep could get up to the required time jump speed. Cry

I might have a spare!Big smile  For the speed requirement, we just need to find a really steep hill...or drop Grampa's Jeep out of an airplane.LOL

Mike,
That's why I mentioned checking the amp draw on the motor. You may have both a start and a run capacitor, but the run cap could be the failing, but not totally gone part since the motor does start, but then loses power.

Tim, The starter cap is a Mepco/Electra model 64814, 324-388 MFD, 110 VAC, 60HZ.   I found one at McMaster-Carr that is a little smaller, but the same MFD and 125 VAC.  I ordered it.  $6.  I hope this is the solution to my problem.  I'm only out small change if it isn't.

Terry, I don't have a good way to check my current draw, and I'm not sure I could interpret it correctly if I did.  So I talked to a smart guy about lift power units and got his advice.  That's what I'm acting on now.  So we'll see.

The story on the 10th Annual should hit newsstands next month. It went live online a little while ago!

Thanks Traci for that very cool feature. I like how you mention the names of some of the Jeeps. "Callie", "Lumpy". Jeeps are people too ya know

My Thanks to Traci and Rick for a great article and some fantastic photos of our tours.  I'm hoping this excellent coverage does not lead to us growing too large.  I'm happy with some of the changes we made last year, like 2 tours each day, extra facilities at Thirsty Dirt Ranch, opening up more shop space for repairs, and two additional - very experienced Guides.  Bruce, Ron and I are looking forward to more good tours this year, including a couple new ones we've never offered before.  Currently there are no plans to limit attendance, so fire up your flatty and bring them on up!!

My wife and I recently relocated to Rifle, Colorado from Illinois and finally plan to make this years run. It'll be nice to put some faces to familiar names and wheel with fellow vintage Jeeps! πŸ‘
