Take a paint marker and have each person making the trek sign your spare wheel. Sort of a travelling "Get Well" card for GrandPa's Jeep.

Great job Stan! The wheels will be back on the ground before you know it. LOOK OUT ROBICON TRAIL! A new chapter begins in the book of Grandpa's Jeep. What a Novel!

Today I mostly did waitin-for-parts kind of stuff,
Got a new mirror head for the side mirror installed.

I got my genuine imitation NACO tail lights installed.

I've hit a couple of rocks with the rear skid plate and it has gotten a little close to the drive line so I decided to replace it.

Someone suggested two plates together, so I'm trying that. Can you tell there are two?

My front end parts came in late in the day. I got started on it, but didn't get it finished. Going to a cookout with some church people so no more work today. Tomorrow's goal, finish up the front end, get the tires and everything back on and go for a ride.

Awesome, Stan.  What did you end up doing for a steering wheel?

Stan you are going to love the double skid plates!  Nice work on taking the patina to a new level.  I have heard it is truly not cool until all of the new is warn off.  You have a cool JeepThumbs Up

I did what Chad suggested. I put a block under the steering wheel, wedged it against the tire of my old Chevy pickup, then put a bottle jack on the steering wheel and jacked up the truck some. It mostly straightened the wheel out. It's not perfect, but I think I can live with it, at least for now. There are a few rough burrs on the wheel where the road rash scraped it that I will probably sand off.

Stan you could also use PC-7 Epoxy putty to smooth any rough spots. It takes about 4 days to fully cure but its so strong you can thread it. then a little black paint.

.

Nah. Just going to leave it as is. Reminds me that life is short. Could be even shorter if you're not careful.
Besides, who else has road rash on their steering wheel?

Made my goal today. Got the front end put together, tires on and went for a little rip.

Here's a picture in the driveway with the new truck.

Didn't go far, just down the block to the construction site dirt pile. So far so good. I still need to play with the brakes a little, but I'm pretty happy and confident that we can run the Rubicon.

Well sir, I, for one, am amazed and impressed. I have to admit, I thought you were nuts for trying and thought there was no way this JEEP would ever look anything close to straight again. You have persevered and proven me wrong. Kudos to you. This may be......no, this is, the best JEEP story ever.
