I have fit a group 27 or 27 F onto the stock battery tray.
It's good if you have an electric winch.
But it's a huge waste if your just starting the engine with it.

North Star makes about the best AGM type battery going for use with winches.
There made in Springfield,Mo.

One of the chores CHUG will have to handle around here when its done is to be our back up generator. I plan on putting a large inverter in the system to keep our Freezer and Fridge as well as the Pellet stove running during short power outages. A HUGE battery is a big plus when doing this. I'm hoping to wedge a Series 31 into the space available and will be building a Tray to hopefully hold one.

As we are also planning on some long term camping once CHUG and our off road trailer is finished having some 120V would be nice.

A note I keep almost 10 gallons of ICE in our freezer and will only have to run it for an hour or so twice a day to keep it cold enough for the Meat to keep.  And that is only if the outside temp is above freezing As the freezer sits in an unheated Laundry room isolated from the main house it takes very little to keep it cold during the parts of the year most likely to have a power outage.

The pellet stove only takes 360 Watts if running full out and coasts along nicely at under 300 watts. The plan would be to run the

Yeah now that you mention it yeah I think a group 31 could also fit.
Here again I think the North star group 31 is a tad smaller than the more common lead acid batteries.

I been thinking on an AGM type battery my Dump truck at work uses them and I could get a decent discount through work have to see how the cost plays out.

The Northstar  looks to be 2.5 times as expensive as the Group 31 Farm and Commercial from Carquest we use in our older trucks at work. it does have more CCA at 1150 compared to 950 and is most likely better as a Deep cycle. But the difference between $119.00 and $305.00 is a long ways.

Get the little 9 volt ones with the snap and just snap them together until you fill the hole.
