I spoke blasphemy the night desert Dog died.
I told my wife I was going to buy a fuel injected side by side!!Embarrassed
I’m ashamed but it’s true!
Can you imagine calling me (Side by side Ben).Confused
Well after a sleepless night with desert dog sitting in the rain I went out to a cold foggy morning hoping it would start.

It wouldn’t Ouch

Awesome!

What’s that little tire on the front for?

The tiny cracks don’t bug me it’s the giant holes I don’t likeOuch

Tires are very handy to have hanging around.
You can use it when pushing another Jeep makes a good cushion.
Hook it between two chains when pulling as a cushion.

Also you know when using a floor jack to pull a t-case and tranny
They have a way of falling off the jack and crashing to the floor.
If you put down a tire as a cushion it keeps the mounting ear on the t-case from getting broke off!
And if you tie a rope to the tire before the t-case tranny falls on it you can drag it out from under the Jeep.Clap

So in short the golf cart tire is a cushionLOL

And now THE REST OF THE STORY.

Desert Dog won’t start.
And on this foggy cold morning it was pretty frustrating to be right outside the shop.

The carb was over flowing bad.
So I tried the easy fix. I hit it with a hammer......no no no I tapped it with a hammer!
But the tapping didn’t help.

Nothing like pulling a carb in the fog.

What I found was the seat had came completely unscrewed.
No wonder the hammer couldn’t unstick the float.

So this explained why the float adjustment was so far off when I pulled it apart the day before.
The seat was unscrewed almost all the way and somehow didn’t fall out when I was adjusting the float. But then on my test run came completely out.
So with the seat... well seated. The float adjustment had to be changed back.
I got it started and drove it into the shop.

I checked the plugs.
And this is what I found.

It has low compression on one cylinder. Should have checked this months ago no wonder it was only running on three cylinders.

So I replaced it with a used one I had saved.

WOW it runs so much better on four cylinders Clap

A quick magic 9 valve adjustment is in order.

Next time just put the Willys in low 4 wheel and crank yourself into the shop with the starter. That also works to get you out of the creek when you drown out the engine. No wet feet this way. Wink

When I did a compression test if I sprayed wd-40 in that hole the  compression came up.  So it must be rings.

I did think about driving it into the shop with the starter, but the way my luck was going I knew for sure it would burn the starter up to do that Dead

Is that a backup alarm bell on the left rear of the FC 170?  I really liked the FC ,DRW flat bed that I got to drive in Montana on a summer ranch job.

I always wanted a FC but with 2 jeeps and a Mitsu Fuso 20' 4x4 diesel motor home I really don't need one. Like I need another Jeep.

Yes it is a backup bell and it works!
The FC was a mobile scaffolding for a large stucco and painting company and they installed the bell.
I thought about removing it..... but it adds to the funkyness. LOL

I was thinking I might need a drw 170 Winkthat load of posts had the spring pack flattened.
That’s awesome you’ve driven one.
