I'm at a couple day standstill on my D18 rebuild so I started working on the T90.

I have the shift tower off, the shifter would move freely, but the rails were all locked up.

I tore it apart last night and cleaned it all up and got it to move. The springs and balls were all in good shape. The rods I put in my lathe and polished. I put it back together last night but have a couple of questions.

First off, without it mounted to a transmission it's a bit hard to shift. I assume it will be much easier when mounted?

Also, the pins holding the shift forks on did not look very sturdy to me, they were soft and hollow. I assume they use a spring roll pin now?

The shift rails had some pitted rust on them, but did move through the bores ok once I cleaned them up and the bores as well, think while I'm there I should just change them out as well?

Thanks!

Bob

I'm not expert, but on the T90 I just did the shift forks were held on by peened pins. I replaced them with roll pins, which seem to be plenty strong.
1948 CJ2A - It goes nowhere fast, but anywhere slow.

Yes when off the tranny and out of the vehicle the tower is a PITA to get to move from one gear to the next.

When I was designing my backup light switch bracket I had to clamp the tower to the work bench to get it in and out of reverse.

You oughta bring that thing to the Spring Willys Reunion. I hear a couple of lucky participants will get to have their T-90 rebuilt!
